Government Procurement now a reality.
We at the Tourism Grading Council like to stick to our word and also to emphasis that quality assurance has overall importance when choosing your accommodation or conference venue, as of the 1st January 2005, all Government bodies are encouraged to procure Star graded properties over non star graded properties. Here's to another tangible benefit to star grading. This was endorsed and emphasized by Environmental Affairs and Tourism Minister, Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk, at the 2004 Annual National Tourism Conference held at Gallagher Estate during September.

March 03, 2005 - NEWSFLASH - Accommodation Grading on a Fast Track
The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) has recorded the highest number of applications for accommodation grading in January and February.
A total number of 331 applications for grading in January 2005 compared to 105 applications in January 2004. For the month of February 2005, the number of applications totalled 232 compared to 136 in February 2004. Respectively, these figures represent 315% and 170% month-on-month increases and provide a clear indication that efforts to fast track the grading of accommodation as part of tourism gearing up for FIFA World Cup 2010 are bearing fruit.
As of the end of March 2005, a total of 70 caravan parks had been graded:
