Scullery and Laundry

Sculleries and laundries can be either separate facilities, or combined facilities.

The scullery (dishwashing facility) and laundry (clothes washing and drying facility) are facilities that could be adjacent to or attached to the ablution blocks. They could be independent facilities in a separate location in the park, or could not even be provided. If these facilities are provided, they will be assessed. In four and five star parks, the provision of a scullery for dishwashing, and a laundry for clothes washing facility is a minimum requirement. The laundry may contain only deep-washing basins if the park caters for long-stay guests, provided there is an automated laundry facility in the neighboring town or city

The facilities provided could be located in the same vicinity or room, must be well ventilated, offer good artificial, as well as good natural lighting. Your flooring can be any fit-for-purpose flooring, must have a non-slip surface and must be free from stains and ease of cleaning, hygiene and guest safety will be considered when evaluating flooring. Special attention must be made behind doors, around the wall skirting and behind and below washbasins and cupboards, and if an external facility, must provide protection from the natural elements by means of a suitable roof over the facility.

The walls and ceilings (if fitted) must be clean, free from stains, flaking paint, clean grout if tiled and generally in as good a condition as the ablutions. The flooring should not become slippery when wet.

The premises must be well signed; clear instructions on the use of the equipment must be prominently displayed.

In four and five Star parks, the scullery must contain either single or double washbasins, they must be of a high quality stainless steel construction, and must be equipped with a draining board with sufficient shelving provided. Hot and cold water, a high quality wall covering and excellent fittings are a pre-requisite.

Equipment, irons, washing machines or drying machines can be commercial coin operated, domestic equipment or staff operated. The equipment must be in good working order, good condition, and clean and easily accessible if used by guests themselves. Ironing tables/boards must be free from burns and stains, and have suitable electrical points available near the ironing area.

Four and five Star parks must provide clothes drying/hanging area and this area must be screened from public view.
